Author Capt Frederick Marryat stayed for long periods during the 1840's gathering material for his famous novel 'The Children of the New Forest' with many of the rooms in the hotel named after characters from his books. His brother George owned the property from 1837 until 1855 when it was sold to the Elphinstone family. The property had three different owners between 1947 and 1967 but it was the Duval family who first made it into a hotel. The Skan family purchased the hotel in January 1966 transforming it into the special countenance it portrays today. Chewton Glen has continued to develop, winning countless national and international awards.
Tylney Hall is a Grade II listed country house hotel set in 66 acres of historic gardens and parkland in the depths of Hampshire.
